BBL Markets Preview Game 13 – Hurricanes v Scorchers

Welcome to Stats Insider's Big Bash Market Preview - your daily look at what the model (and my gut) are seeing in the main markets (and a few exotics) each and every day of BBL08!

Hopefully you got amongst the $11’s about Mackenzie Harvey for High Bat last night (you’re welcome!).

Tonight we get the prospect of some actual runs being scored (shock horror!) in what looks a very tight Hurricanes v Scorchers game.

Head to Head

Zero value in the main market tonight according to the model with a rare 0% edge for both sides. Bookies seem to have this one bang on with the Canes being slight $1.80 favourites away from Perth where that Scorchers side has been so lethal.

Highest Opening Partnership

Again no edges here, the model has the Canes as 55% favourites which makes sense given the dominance of Short and Wade but Berehndorff is possibly the best opening bowler in the Big Bash which makes this market a real coin flip.

Most Sixes

Interestingly there is a slight edge for the Scorchers in this market from the model despite the Hurricanes clearly showcasing their ability to clear the fence last start. Still no bet though from the Stats Insider model.

High Bat

With the class of Perth’s opening bowling attack there is little value at the top of the order for the Hurricanes with Short at $3. I like the value about Doolan at $7’s – he will bat #3 if an early wicket falls and will get plenty of time to build up his innings. Faulkner at $26’s is well over the odds if you like the Scorchers to take multiple early wickets.

Ashton Agar is once again over the odds at $15’s. I’m expecting some early wickets to fall for the Scorchers so Agar could get decent 8-9 over exposure and with his class, he can build then finish strong.

Player of the Match

There will be runs in this game, which makes wickets valuable in any Player of the Match calculations. Agar at $21’s is well over the odds for someone who should get 4 overs and Archer at $13’s in a bounce-back narrative is also well worth a dip.
