Winning Streaks and Broken Records

Data Road Trip looks back on the week, investigating the key data points and numbers that formed what we saw in the week that was in sports. This week we take a look at the weekend of sporting action, digging out some of the extraordinary numbers that made up what we saw. Let's get into it!

51 Points

In Game 1 of the NBA Finals, LeBron James became the sixth player in NBA History to score 50 or more points in an NBA Finals. However, he also became the first player in NBA History to score 50 or more points in an NBA Finals game and lose as the Cavs went down to the Warriors 124-114 in Overtime.

9 Three-Pointers Made

Steph Curry set an NBA Finals record in Game Two, draining nine three-pointers which broke Ray Allen's record of eight.

9 Years, 9 Wins

The Newcastle Knights maintained their dominance over Parramatta Eels with their ninth win in their last eleven matches, and haven't lost against them in Sydney for nine years dating back to 2009.

10 Wins In A Row

The Sydney Roosters have now won 10 games in a row against Wests Tigers at Allianz Stadium, and additionally, the Tigers haven't beaten anyone at Allianz Stadium since 2012.

12 Years

With their 49 point win over the Western Bulldogs, Melbourne now is on their longest winning streak since 2006 - with 6 straight victories.

Gary Ablett Jr

The prodigal son returned to the Gold Coast on the weekend, putting on a vintage display with 37 disposals and 3 goals, reminding his former Gold Coast teammates just how good he is.

Essendon's Dreamtime Nightmare

Richmond continued their dominance over a struggling Essendon side, belting them to the tune of 71 points on Saturday night at the MCG. It was also their seventh consecutive win over the Bombers and their fourth in the Dreamtime slot.

15 Wins In A Row

Richmond registered their fifteenth win in a row at the MCG on Saturday night, continuing their dominance at the home of footy. Luckily for the reigning Premiers, they'll be playing a lot of Finals footy there if they keep up their red-hot form at home. Their streak at the MCG in the second best in VFL/AFL history, trailing Melbourne’s record of 17 in 1955-56.

10 Wins In A Row

The West Coast Eagles hard-fought win over St. Kilda sealed their tenth consecutive win in a row - their best streak since 1996.
