A smorgasbord of sports betting as Club 20 punters chase Presidents Cup, NBA glory!

Presidents Cup on the big screen at the pool bar, NBA in the sports lounge and value bets everywhere we look - yeah there's a very good chance you'll need to initiate 'preliminary sick day protocol' for Friday because we’re a good bet to get carried away here!

It’s been a solid December so far at Club 20, going at a tidy 7.5% POT (whilst getting undeniably hard-done-by the whole way along!), and feelings on Presidents Cup Eve (totally a thing) were buoyant at the form tables as punters shot some pool and yarned about what value bets they liked and disliked.

As the beverages flowed, the smorgasbord of sports betting was whittled down to the list below...

Presidents Cup @ Royal Melbourne

For non-golfers interested in a flutter, let me first set the scene for you; imagine that the Afghanistan cricket team was touring Australia for a 5-Test series, then imagine they were doing in the late 90’s or early 2000’s!

Ok so maybe I'm doing the Internationals a slight disservice there, maybe Bangladesh... or New Zealand??😁😁

The point I'm trying (and failing) to make is that this contest is so lopsided that should the unthinkable happen and the Yanks lose this, ScoMo will have to take 5 mins from his busy bushfire-denial regimen to announce a national public holiday.

If you have a spare five or six figures lying around, the Yanks look about as safe a bet as you could want at the $1.40 price, but for those of us who have a lobster or two to throw some darts, here’s what we’re on…

Day 1 Four-Ball Match Multi’s

Were not just picking the score here, we’re going to be eyeballing who will score what and when then building multi’s out from there.

The US team should win this event comfortably but the Internationals could jump them Day 1 and two pairings in particular stand out as value.

If these two bets fail, then they all fail, but if we nail our first 2-legger featuring two very winnable matches for the Internationals, then it’s all downhill from there.

2 Leg Multi @ 5.10

  • Scott/An @ 2.20
  • Oosty / Ancer @ 2.30

Tiger pairing himself with JT and going off first. Lock it in. Even were Leishman in form I'd be taking Tigers and JT. Leish is NOT in form.

3 Leg Multi @ 8.75

  • Scott/An @ 2.20
  • Oosty / Ancer @ 2.30
  • Woods/Thomas @ 1.72

Cantlay and Xander will have been told in no uncertain terms that distance is not always an advantage at Royal Melbourne. Im and Hadwin are a class below these two, again a comfortable win for the visitors.

4 Leg Multi @ 15.10

  • Scott/An @ 2.20
  • Oosty / Ancer @ 2.30
  • Woods/Thomas @ 1.72
  • Cantlay/Schauffele @ 1.72

Deki can take this Match deep and Reed/Webb aren't exactly the guys who can dominate a hole. They both scramble well and i can see this going right down to the wire for a halved match.

5 Leg Multi @ 98.00

  • Scott/An @ 2.20
  • Oosty / Ancer @ 2.30
  • Woods/Thomas @ 1.72
  • Cantlay/Schauffele @ 1.72
  • Match 4 Draw @ 6.50

Lowest International Points Scorer – Adam Hadwin @ 10.00

A lot of talk about Adam Hadwin out for revenge after a horror showing last time around, but the guy is ranked #48 in the world golf rankings, is lucky to be on the team (was a captains pick) and is unlikely to play more than twice.

He got a start Day 1 and is paired with 19yr old Sungjae Im and they are up against the two US wunderkinds in Xander Schauffele (#9) and Patrick Cantlay (#7) in what is easily the most lopsided Match of the opening day for mine. A very likely globe on Day 1 and the prospect of playing just 1 more match makes that $10 very juicy. We’re on!

Highest International Points Scorer – Byeong Hun-An @ 15.00

This one is abit of a hail mary but the odds on Benny An are so good. His short game is amazing and with the greens likely getting to 13 on the stint (means really, REALLY fast), An’s shithouse putting is less an issue than it would be at a putting-fest course.

If he starts missing 2-3 footers then sure, it’s all over and he might only play twice but he and Scotty have a very winnable matchup against Finau and Bryson and An’s ball striking and around-the-green / bunker play should be really prominent here.

NBA Thursday

To cover for some of our questionable golf bets, here’s three NBA Combo plays we really like today.

You can choose to take them individually as singles or combine them in multi’s or, if you are silly like us, do both!

Taking all 3 single bets, 3 doubles and the treble makes it seven (7) bets in total for the NBA today:

  • Ja Morant Combo Score (P+A) +24.5 @ 1.88
  • Kris Middleton Combo Score (P+R+A) +27.5 @ 1.93
  • Devonte' Graham Combo Score (P+R+A) +31.5 @ 1.87

Stats Insider wrote about Graham as one of the surprise packages of the season so far.

We also like Zach LaVine who is a Game-Time Decision (along with half the Bulls team) and make sure to check back with us on twitter prior to the Grizzlies @ Suns for a Same-Game Multi we really like (just want to confirm starting lineups)

Before you finish up, check out Stats Insider's NBA Hub for all the model's match projections and predictions.

Hedge

Cruelly denied sporting glory due to recurring shin splint complaints and an aversion to warm-up laps, Hedge now spends his days golfing, fishing the leaves out of the Club 20 pools and identifying value plays in PGA, AFL, AFLW and T20. All you really need to know about him is he's more than comfortable taking 3I off the tee on a Par 5, and more than capable of pulling driver off the deck second shot.
