Punters Corner: Greener Pastures
Last updated: Jun 28, 2019, 7:03AM | Published: Jun 27, 2019, 4:54AM
It's been a great week here at Club 20 after back-to-back wins (142.5% POT and 43% POT last two weeks) but for the last few days, all the punters want to yarn about is how on Ablett’s green earth is there a single digit line for the Bombers tonight after what the Eagles did to them last week?
If West Coast had kicked straight, they would have won by 80 points. That’s not hyperbole, that is just basic mathematics.
GWS are arguably an even better side than the Eagles and this ‘response game’ that bookies seem to have baked into tonight’s markets just looks nowhere to be seen.
It’s the Bombers, they are struggling to answer the telephone right now, let alone a challenge from a flag fancy.
AFL
Giants -7.5 Line @ 1.90
I don’t normally do this but we are tripling the stake on this one tonight. It is one of the best Line bets I’ve seen all season and all the learned Club 20 bar flies concur the bet needs to be tripled.
GWS 40+ @ 5.00
We are so bullish about the Giants tonight here in the front bar, that we are going again on the 40+ bet despite being severely (even for us) hard-done-by last week being on the Eagles.
Toby Greene 3+ / 4+ / 5+ / 6+ Goals
It wouldn’t be Thursday Night Footy at Club 20 without the patrons having some hail-mary play to whip home but tonight we’re leaving the Oscar Allen’s of the footy world alone and taking some pedigree at a price with Greene. He has been getting right up the ground the last month or so but he has been pushing back deep, just not being used. Suspect tonight we might see a few cheapies for him on the big Friday night stage. Like the spot, the occasion and for me slight overs is always a good thing. At $4.75 (3), $12.50 (4), $42.50 (5) and $171 (6), I can get behind Green here (just not in front, never in front, lest he scissor kick me in the head).
Hedge’s 2-Legger
Giants -9.5 / Williams Over 24.5 Disposals @ 3.50
Had to give a little back on the line here to get the two-legger but the game sets up to be fast and Williams looks back in top form. I just think they are both pretty safe if you are looking for something with a little bit more meat than the main markets.
PGA
I've had a few punters in here over the last few weeks keen to watch a bit of golf and over a few cold ones we got to talking about this week’s PGA.
I love my golf so with this influx of interest from a few patrons, Club 20 has decided to have a little flutter this week for the Rocket Mortgage Classic in Detroit.
Dustin Johnson
- Outright Win @ 6.50
He is by far (laughably so) the best player in this field. He is ranked first in shots gained off the tee, second in approach and in the top 30 in this field in putting. He destroys Par 5’s (ranked second in field for Par 5 scoring behind Woodland) and this course in Detroit is offering up four of them. Yes it’s short, but this weak field allows us to look past that a little and focus on the more pertinent question – who can beat him here? If he plays even mediocre he will challenge and if he plays to his best he wins by 5 shots.
Michael Thompson
- Outright (EW) @126.00
- Top 10 @ 11.00
- Top 20 @ 5.00
Thompson was on fire earlier this season with five Top 20 finishes in a row from the Desert Classic to the Honda (9th, 13th, 10th, 7th, 16th). Some tougher fields and courses have meant 5 missed cuts in his last 9 starts but a 10th at Heritage late April, then a 14th finish last-start at the Memorial tells me that the game is there still, he just needs the course and conditions and, most importantly, the weaker field. He gets that here. Coming off a solid 14th at the Memorial, I really like Thompson’s chances here to pay off those T20, T10 bets.
Be sure to check back in tomorrow at lunch time for the complete Round 15 Club 20 bets.
