“It’s got 40+ written all over it”

Two shellackings and plenty of underdog value headline Round 3 of the AFLW with punters at the front bar keen to go three in a row at Club 20.

After returns of 16.4% POT (Round 1) and 34.8% POT (Round 2), confidence is high we can keep the good times rolling in Round 3 starting with the Dees tonight.

AFLW Round 3

Saints v Dees

Not likely to be too windy this evening and a good chance the rain will have come and gone by bounce; we will be on the Dees and this game could be a nice little fill up to start the weekend for Club 20.

Melbourne have no weakness and should be dominant out of the middle and able to really clamp down on any St Kilda attacking which should limit their scoring to under 20.

Goal scorer markets aren’t up at time of writing but the Dees really should win in dominant fashion tonight, look out for Kate Hore to kick straight, whilst Tegun Cunningham, Shelley Scott and Eden Zanker all worth a look. Check back in with us on twitter closer to bounce.

  • Demons -17.5

  • Dees 25+

  • Dees 40+

Bulldogs v Blues

This could be the best value of the week with markets continuing to overestimate Carlton. Brooke Lochland and Issy Huntington both great in’s for the Doggies who are at home on a sunny Saturday afternoon and will be absolutely desperate to win. This is a must win game for them and they have the kind of forward line and hard-working attacking midfield to be able to dominate Carlton.

Blues have advantages in the ruck with Bre Moody likely to get on top of Kim Rennie, and their forward line is dangerous so if ruck dominance translates to clearance dominance the game will be even, but expect the Bulldogs to get really tough in this game and dominate Carlton.

  • Dogs +5.5

  • Dogs Outright

  • Dogs 10+

Suns v Lions

Showers lurking around Metricon on Saturday afternoon will turn what was already shaping to be a very close game into a 1-kick encounter for mine. Will be a low-scoring game, very hotly contested whether it rains or not, the Suns took plenty of Lions players (and coaches) in the off season and there is zero love here.

  • Unders
  • Suns +11.5
  • Tri-Bet (Either under 16)

Dockers v Magpies

Not going to be touching this that much despite the fact it should be one of the games of the round. If there is one defender in the comp who can go with Gemma Houghton it is Ash Brazil so if anything I'd be taking the points on offer for the Pies expecting a close game.

These two teams will beat up on plenty this season, but they matchup pretty evenly so not liking too much in the way of value in the west.

  • Collingwood +8.5

Giants v Eagles

Should be pretty clear by now I don’t rate the Giants this season and even against the Eagles I am not changing that assessment. GWS are a poor kicking team and have a dysfunctional and predictable forward line that makes it easy for teams to stay in games against them.

West Coast on the other hand can be forgiven their 0-2 start having played the Pies and Dockers two stronger teams. Not sure they can get the win but we’ll be jumping on the two-goal start markets are giving them that’s for sure.

  • Eagles +12.5

Tigers v Kangaroos

Roos are in a smash spot here against a Tigers team that got sucked into the recruitment strategy that hobbled the Magpies for the first 3 years. Richmond picked ‘star’ forwards and one gun midfielder, not realizing the AFLW is about having a critical mass of skillful mids and an intercepting half-back line.

North should destroy Richmond here in what is forecast to be pretty calm conditions. All North forwards live chances for goals/multiple goals. 40+ in play.

  • North -16.5
  • North 25+
  • North 40+

Cats v Crows

These two teams have really been struggles for me so far in 2020. Thought both would be miles better than they have been. It has been the kick to half forward/inside 50 that has absolutely cruelled both of them so far. The case for the Cats is they get star backline general Meg McDonald back which creates a really positive ripple effect matchup wise. The case against them is it doesn’t matter who they have down there if their mids and forwards can’t connect they will get destroyed.

Cats aren’t a fast team either so they can’t run around the Crows like St Kilda tried to last week. Adelaide get Courtney Cramey back who could play forward or back and make a big difference. If both teams play their best it will be a close win to Adelaide. My gut tells me the Cats can compete and even win this but I won’t be betting it, if Geelong play like they did last week they will lose by 40 - the last two weeks watching Geelong have hurt my eyes and confidence.

T20 Womens World Cup

After pouring over data for the last 3 days, the cricket team at Club 20 tasked with form analysis on the T20W tournament have come to a unanimous, honest conclusion – they have no bloody idea what the hell they are doing.

No one here has put in the hours watching women’s T20 international cricket over the last six months needed to uncover quality value so instead of just blindly guess, the lads put it in the "too hard" basket, backed Ellyse Perry in everything they could, then ordered early lunch beers.

Touche cricket table, touche.

Hedge

Cruelly denied sporting glory due to recurring shin splint complaints and an aversion to warm-up laps, Hedge now spends his days golfing, fishing the leaves out of the Club 20 pools and identifying value plays in PGA, AFL, AFLW and T20. All you really need to know about him is he's more than comfortable taking 3I off the tee on a Par 5, and more than capable of pulling driver off the deck second shot.
