Club 20 Thursday Night Lights: Open Bar after huge six-figure payday

What can we say about our last month that hasn’t already been said about Michael Bay movies?
Poor, bad, rough, terrible, at times careless and stupid, look it has been a dead set horror show this last month, our worst on record.
A decent string of rotten luck has not helped but it is fair to say confidence was low here at Club 20 this week…that was until one of our regulars took down a monster six figure DFS tourney last night and shouted the bar right up until opening bounce tonight!
All class (and tin) JB. Cheers to you and cheers to a rapid turnaround for the front bar tonight!
AFL – Carlton v St Kilda
Hunter Clark 20+, 25+ 30+ Disposals
With Zac Jones out of the team and Jack Steele likely kept very busy being 1cm away from wherever Patty Cripps is, the Saints onballers look a little thin. Jarryn Geary returns to the backline which could see some time up the ground for Clark who saw some midfield time late last season. Obviously, 30+ is pie in the sky stuff but we think that a 25+ game is achievable here for Clark playing that half back/midfield role, and were very buoyed by the four 25+ games late last year. Won’t fade out of it, gets good opportunity at selection and a good track at Marvel for accumulation.
Dan Butler 2+, 3+, 4+ Goals
Riding the hot hand with Butler tonight still at great odds to kick a brace or more against the Blues. Small forwards are where Carlton look vulnerable in terms of defensive matchups inside 50 and Butler is on such a tear to start 2020, we’re not looking to over-think this.
AFL Multi: Butler 2 Goals into Clark 20+
PGA – Rocket Mortgage Classic
After an hour of watching fly overs of the Detroit Golf Club, one thing is abundantly clear, any iron players / putters who you had fears for off the tee have a serious advantage here.
This is a short course with 4 Par 5’s (three very reachable), almost no water (one hole) and very (very!) forgiving off the tee so even if players aren’t finding the wide fairways, most should still be able to find the short stuff second shot.
Where you are on the greens matters here, with vast majority of the green complexes tiered and/or sloping back down towards the players, so landing one short of the pin for an uphill put is the avenue to birdies this week, which means we are looking for guys coming in with hot irons who can putt.
Chris Hoot Outright EW (known as Christiaan Bezuidenhout outside Australia)
His irons are amazing, he can putt with the best on tour and the only thing that has been keeping him from contending / making cuts is his putrid off the tee game where he has lost between 1.5 and 3 strokes to the field in his last five measured events on tour. He can either club down here and hit irons for position or rip driver and not really give a hoot where they land. This course is made for him so if he doesn’t contend this weekend in a vastly weaker field he is off the Club 20 Christmas list.
Brandt Snedeker Outright EW
Despite the consecutive consonant, Brandt is known as Brandt, or Sneds, on account of his parents having the common courtesy to save content writers vital googling time not having to remember where all the bloody vowels go (we’re looking at you Mrs Hoot!).
Sneds finished T5 here last year despite losing 2.5 strokes on approach thanks to a hot putter. He loves Donald Ross courses, loves Bent greens and will love being able to find the green even if he misses the fairway off the tee, which he is likely to do as his tee-to-green game has been pathetic post-covid.
Signs of a turnaround though given he gained 4.5 around the greens and 5 with the flatstick at the Travelers. Those numbers would normally win you a tournament but he was so bad tee-to-green he only managed T41. Short game spike could spark a recalibration in iron play and if his approaches fire, he will contend here. Good odds in a weak field.
Jimmy Walker Outright EW
After seeing the final leaderboard at the Travelers we felt compelled to search down the list for an also-ran who can spike a finish this week and we’ve settled on Walker because we love disappointment and pain.
Missed Cuts at the Heritage and Charles Schwab to re-start his season don’t look good. In fact they look shithouse, because they were, but it was all lost off the tee and on the greens – his irons have been actually firing.
Last year Walker lost 2 strokes to the field at this event and still finished T21 thanks to a white hot putter (+7.6 gained). He is hitting his irons really well (ranked #6 on approach and #11 proximity in this field last 8 rounds) and has fond memories of the greens here.
Thursday Night 3-Ball Multi
Sneds and Ricky
Action starts nice and early pretty much straight after the footy the featured groups will be on the tee, so we will get to watch their front 9 at least before the clock ticks into Friday morning.
