Club 20 Thursday Night Lights: No Dusty, No Worries

Thursday afternoon is fast becoming the best time of the week as sport returns to the lives of Club 20 punters and anticipation of a big night of glorious victory builds.
After a fairly average start to last week we decided to pump the brakes on the bets and just sit back and watch every minute of every game – it’s a tough job but someone has to do it!
Confidence levels are high for a return to the winners circle with 15 bets across AFL, NRL and PGA tonight.
Enjoy the yarn as you tuck into your lunch parmys and good luck to all punters tonight, feel free to drop into the twitter conversation pre game, during or whilst we’re lining up to collect!
AFL – TIGERS V HAWKS
Richmond -7.5
With Hawthorn coming off a right royal 59-pt rogering at the hands of the Cats, Club 20 eyes boggled when the line came out for the Tigers in this game.
How Richmond has been given just -7.5 to cover here is amazing. If you are making just one bet tonight, that’s the one. Tigers at the line.
Tigers 40+
The $6 (roughly) about a Tigers pasting tonight is too juicy for us to pass up. We know there is no Dusty, but we don’t care – Hawks had no answers for the Cats when they put the foot down, their forward line is a bit of a joke and will get eaten by the Tigers defence. Tigers could very well win 40+ not scoring 70.
Jason Castagna Goals
The Hawks are well enough equipped to curtail Lynch and Reiwoltd (to a degree) but the team they named will struggled for pace to cover the ground balls or speedy small forwards on the lead.
There is also no Dusty Martin sucking up inside 50’s. This is all good news for a player like Castagna who can have a day out here if he kicks truly. Taking for 2/3/4/5+ Goals and crossing our fingers the boots are on straight.
NRL – KNIGHTS V BRONCOS
Hard to tip a game involving the donkeys lately, so we are sticking with something that is not hard – Ponga being awesome.
The $3 for Most Meters is juicier than it should be because Payne Haas is there, but the track should be relatively dry in Gosford tonight and Ponga is in everything the Knights do from kick returns to line breaks to set plays.
PGA – RBC HERITAGE
There’s no sugar coating it, we failed badly at Colonial last week with Lowry and Bezeidenhout both missing on the number and McIlroy being two back coming into Sunday then shooting a final round 74 (wtf Rory!).
Even Bud Cauley couldn’t get up high enough to land a T20 bet (finished T29).
That’s the bad news. The good news is we did land a nice 15-1 bet in the second round thanks to McIlroy shooting low round on Friday, and we watched Golf. Lots and lots of Golf.
With a week of watching under our belts and some recent form data to crunch, confidence is high that we can bounce back at Hilton Head tonight which tends to be a real horses for courses track.
We have a course horse in here but a small 3-player betting card to start, we like a few in that 30-50 range but feel there will be much better odds after R1 finishes so look for a few more to add to the card tomorrow.
Joel Dahmen
Starting our card with Dahmen who has been sneaky excellent both pre-covid and also last week at Colonial where he gained over 5 shots on approach and 2 on the greens.
That is exactly who we are after this week, a guy who is flushing his irons and has a bit of confidence to convert with the flat stick.
A T16 here last year where he gained 4 strokes on his more-favoured Bermuda greens will add to the confidence levels, as will a nice early Thursday tee time where conditions should be great for scoring.
We’re on each-way in the outrights and also having some First Round Leader as well.
Christiaan Bezeidenhout
Got into trouble with driver at Colonial last week but despite losing almost two strokes off the tee, the rising South African star still had his chances to make the weekend thanks to hot irons (gained 3 strokes on approach in two rounds!)
He couldn’t convert his chances and missed on the number but we’re going back this week at a great price. Markets yet to respect what this kid can do. Looked great at the API where he gained 4 strokes putting on Bermuda for a T18. Looked great at The Players prior to it being canned.
Like that he gets an early tee off Friday this time, think he can come and do what needs to be done Friday to make the weekend even if he starts poorly tonight. This course will suit him not needing to take driver as much.
Luke Donald
The course form of Donald is too hard to ignore, especially when you factor in price. Finished runner up here three times and has four T3 or better in the last 7 years.
The guy can’t get off the tee to save his life but at this course that doesn’t seem to matter. In 2016 he finished second despite losing a whopping 4.4 strokes off the tee, then last year, he finished T33 having lost 7.8 strokes off the tee!
I mean no one does that. Ever. He loves these greens, has gained over 5 shots on approach in 5 of the last 7 years (3 of them over 8 shots!) and his around the green game is solid. Really liked what I saw at Honda from him pre-covid (T11) and you can bet he would have shaken the rust off at Hilton Head last week whilst the field was at Colonial.
Worth a look in the top nationality markets as well.
