Club 20 Halloween Special - A Scary amount of NBA/PGA Value!
Last updated: Oct 30, 2019, 12:16PM | Published: Oct 30, 2019, 11:02AM
On this most nonsensical of holidays, please keep cussing and nudity to a minimum whilst executing any Club 20 victory bull-dancing - there will be young, impressionable kids roaming the streets and the last thing we can have them learning is how awesome punting on sport is!
If the trick-or-treating kids in your street are half-smart, they’ll circle back to your place every time a big lay lay 'Come ooooon' echoes from your lounge room!
Big day of sport and a big suite of bets to get through, lets rip in...
PGA
WGC – HSBC
We're in China for the third and final leg of the Asian swing and despite the fact it’s a WGC event this field seems weaker than both Korea and Japan - no one tell the Chinese though lest they take offence and somehow end golf worldwide.
In fact, best not to take chances, i'll start again... ahem,
This incredibly deep, major-like field reflects powerfully on the wise and glorious leader and it's great to be back here, at the home of golf and amongst the people of the greatest golfing nation the world has ever seen.
(phew, that was close. Right, moving on now...)
Even if it wasn't a bombers course (which it absolutely is), Rory McIlroy would stand out big time here but without Brooks, Dusty, JT, Tiger, Cantlay and Bryson in this field, Rory looks the clear favourite and almost seems deserving of the 6/1 odds. Almost.
No way we're touching that though. Much better, in our humble opinion, to take three guys each-way in the outright market who, should any one of them finish inside the top six, are long enough that we get our cash back and a little bit more. Any of them win, it’s happy days!
All three of these guys have the length to take advantage of three very easy Par 5’s (all under 560 yards) and two drive-able Par 4’s which at this course is key to contending.
Patrick Reed 31-1
Patrick Reed was -7 on the weekend and had his opening round 72 (+2) been -2 instead, he’d have been in the top five. He's had something like 10 or 11 T20 finishes in his last 12 starts and with this field being a little bit weak at the top end, we feel we’re getting a good bit of value attacking this $30-40 range. Five under 65 on moving day in Japan stands out a lot. T7 here last year (and 2015) and his game is not that far off from all clicking together.
Shane Lowry 31-1
Speaking of all coming back together, (sir) Shane Lowry finished T13 last week despite an opening round 71 (+1) with marked improvement each and every round culminating in a final round 65. This course demands driving distance and accuracy as well as creativity and patience, which are all Lowry's strengths. The putter starts to heat up and he will absolutely contend here at a course that should really suit him. A final-round 77 (+5!) to slide to T23 2016 will still be burning him.
Sergio Garcia 41-1
Sergio may need back surgery from all the Club 20 punters on him the last two weeks and let's not beat around the bush - he has been poop. The good news is that he looked much better at the weekend in Japan (-4) and he now gets a track he knows well and has had success at T9 (’16), T11 (’15). His odds are inflated but he is only a month off his last win on the European Tour and from what I saw of his the last few weeks, he has got into a little trouble but the putts have not been dropping for him either. He has the length to be a contender at this course which he has shown and at a pretty stupid 41-1, we’re going again.
BERMUDA (ALT. PGA EVENT)
If you get to watch some of this, I highly recommend you taking a gander at these guys teeing off the Par 3 16th. It’s one of those great Par 3’s over water where anything left or right is splashing into the Atlantic. It's a beautiful golf hole and there is just something amazingly therapeutic about watching professional golfers lose it over a slightly wayward tee shot the way you or I would in a local comp.
Speaking of local comps, the class is waaaaay down in this field and the wind will be up pretty much all four days, making for a really fun betting board. Whilst it was really tempting to take Boo Weekly here for obvious reasons, we’re leaving ol spooky and the plethora of roughies alone until after round one and instead taking more proven options to start the tournament..
Both Alex Noren (15-1) and Russell Knox (19-1) have good form at courses like this and won't mind if (when) the wind gets up. Given the field these two guys should both be around the $9-10 mark but the interest in the Korn Ferry Posse led by Scottie Scheffler, and last-start winner Lanto Griffin is holding these two Euro's out way past where their odds should be.
There is going to be some immense value here after Round 1 so stay tuned via our Club 20 Twitter (@club20_) for some additional bets prior to Round 2 starting.
NBA
Pretty massive day of NBA today but before we start, we did these bets last night prior to having starting lineups confirmed so factor that in and if you want to, wait for starting lineups to lock in prior to submitting your bets.
Assuming there are no late player outs that impact the bets below, we’re pretty bullish about our day of NBA!
Bucks @ Celtics
The Celtics no longer have Al Horford to protect them from the Greek who should absolutely destroy them here. With no Brogdon, Giannis’ assists have skyrocketed this season, his usage is through the roof as well and really the only thing that is stopping him here is some (highly improbable) foul trouble and if he avoids that, the Bucks will cover that -2 pt line no worries at all. The Celtics have no one who can stop Giannis. Tatum will try but when that fails, their Option B may be calling Larry Bird. We’re pushing in on the Freak today who should remind the league that last season’s MVP was no fluke.
We also like Kris Middleton to continue his upward shooting trend and smash past 20pts, and just in case all this happens AND the Bucks choke on the buzzer, we’re going to run all this back with some Kemba who scored 32pts last start in just under 30mins and looks the only chance the Celtics have to even stay competitive here.
- Giannis Antetokounmpo DD/Bucks win @ 1.90
- Giannis Antetokounmpo 7+ Assists/Bucks win @ 3.25
- Giannis Antetokounmpo TD/Bucks win @ 9.00
- Kris Middleton 20pts / Bucks win @ 4.35
- Kemba Walker 30+/Celtics win @ 8.00
Player Combo Multis
Someone has to pay for all those Freddo Frogs I’ll have to dish out to all the fat kids on my street tonight, so it may as well be some NBA guys from the country that popularised this ridiculous holiday.
To pay homage to this objectively stupid tradition, we’re executing a full 'Yankee' on this quartet of combo bets below which means all singles, all doubles, all trebles and the four-leg multi (15 bets in total).
Normally, we’d either bet the singles or just go for multi-broke but this method does give us the safety of still making decent money should we miss one of the four legs.
I wouldn't recommend this type of play long term because it does expose a lot more bankroll than often needs to be for not that much more upside, but on a day where letting our kids go and knock on the doors of strangers and ask them for candy / throw sh*t at their house is not just acceptable but encouraged, who the hell knows what to think!
- Kevin Love +32.5 P+A+R – Over @ 1.80
- Caris LeVert +26.5 P+A+R – Over @ 1.88
- Rui Hachimura +20.5 P+R – Over @ 1.91
- De’Aaron Fox +28.5 P+A+R – Over @ 1.81
Suns @ Warriors
To finish the day off, we’re jumping all over Steph Curry to have one of his absolute feasts after finding some form last start against the Pels. He finished the game with 26pts from 30 mins but he sat a lot of the second half and if this game stays close, which we think it can, Steph will be badly needed to get the Warriors their first home win of the new season. Like baaaaadly.
- Steph Curry 35+ / Warriors Win @ 4.50
- Steph Curry 40+ / Warriors Win @ 9.00
- Steph Curry DD / Warriors Win @ 5.50
