Club 20: Friday Night Betting Lights
Last updated: Jul 2, 2020, 2:51AM | Published: Jun 12, 2020, 1:56AM
With AFL, NRL and PGA all on tonight the world, or at least the world we sports-loving punters live in, is beginning to return to a semblance of normalcy.
There may be no crowds and shorter quarters, but there is still value around for the re-start of the 2020 AFL season.
Ditto in the NRL tonight, and we like a few at Colonial after staying up until stupid o’clock watching way too much golf.
In fact there was enough juicy little bets tonight that we decided to break up our AFL Round 2 betting card across two articles and include all the Friday bets in one yarn.
So here it is, your Club 20 Friday Night Lights edition. Enjoy!
AFL - Cats v Hawks
Expect this will be pretty free flowing, these two sides always seem to turn on the goals when they play early in the season. Very different conditions in 2020 with reduced quarters though so it is a little bit of a wait and watch for a lot of the markets on offer. Disposals markets in general don’t have a lot of value in these reduced quarters but there is enough here to get us interested given the changes at selection for Hawthorn.
Tom Mitchell 30+
Without O’Meara and his 25 odd touches needing to go somewhere in that Hawthorn midfield, Titch looks a pretty safe play even with reduced quarters. Eased into R1 with 25 touches but this is Friday night against the Cats – Mitchell will be at his ball-gathering best. Expecting a Sidebottom-esque first half from the magnet.
Liam Shiels 25+
Happy to focus in on the Hawks onballers in JOM’s absence expecting the both hit, but Shiels can also act as somewhat of a saver for the Mitchell play. 24 disposals R1 that’s pretty standard for Shiels in these reduced quarters, adding 2-3 touches for O’Meara bump.
Burgoyne 2+ Goals, 3+ Goals
Like Mihocek for the Pies, Burgoyne is often the forgotten man for opposition defences when the ball is coming in. In the game on the lead or when it comes to ground and at a good price. Bagged 3 in the first round, expect he is a live chance for a brace or better every game this season in that forward line.
Isaac Smith 1+ Goal, 2+ Goals, 3+ Goals
Smith is always a live chance to jag a goal on the run from 55. Has kicked a goal in five of his last six games and loves playing Geelong (has kicked 7.5 last 6 meetings). The multiples are obviously ambitious but if he gets one early it will be a fun sweat for us!
NRL
Warriors v Cowboys
With Jason Taumoalolo returning for the Cows, Joey help the Warriors in Gosford this afternoon. Penrith proved last week that the Warriors win over the Dragons was due to the Dragons being shit and nothing else. The men from Queensland may not be able to merge onto a freeway or figure out that prep is not kindergarten, but damnit they can play footy and we’re on the Cows in a big way tonight!
Cowboys -6.5, 13+, 19+
The line is far too short here for the Cowboys. Coach Paul Green will still be livid they lost to the Sharks last Saturday so a general lift in defensive intent will be bolstered by the return of Coen Hess to that leaky left edge. Lolo in the middle and a starting role for Reece Robson at hooker, the Cows look very dangerous. We’re expecting (and betting) a 20+ victory for the Cows tonight.
Coen Hess, Reece Robson, Jason Taumalolo Try
Getting great odds on Hess here against a Warriors team who could have easily conceded tries to Kikau and Capewell last week (and Sims/Frizell the week before had the Dragons halves been present). Expect the Cows to go straight through the Warriors until they break them. Really brave punters have a good look at Hess for a double.
PGA
Charles Schwab Challenge – Round 2
Confession to make, our Rose 3-ball we posted last night late on twitter hit home, but we also threw on a bet for DJ to bogey the first which he did (at 9’s!) which we didn’t publish. A thousand pardons!
Keep an eye on those kinds of markets and be aware of which hole your guys are teeing off from (the 10th is a tricky Par 4 whereas the 1st is a reachable Par 5).
Even though conditions were excellent for Round 1 we still saw some poor scores from good players, this course demands accuracy and punishes any miscalculation so if you are playing the 3balls, take the guys who can get themselves out of trouble.
Our 3-ball card will go up on twitter once more markets come out this afternoon but it will be full of early tee times so we can stay up and watch the action from about 9:45pm tonight.
Rory McIlroy – Round 2 Low Round
Doubling down on the best in the world. He gets an early tee time and has a round under his belt. Putted well without luck in R1 where his back 9 comprised nine pars which is very un-Rory like. Can go out and set a score here for an afternoon pack that will have to deal with an extra 10m/ph winds than the morning wave.
