Cashed up and off to Sin City – what could go wrong!

The PGA Tour rolls into Vegas and it’s a pretty stacked field for the Shriners Open this year with plenty of big names arriving in Sin City to tee it up at TPC Summerlin.
In true Vegas spirit and channeling our best Austin Powers ‘I also, like to live dangerously’, some of our bets this week are, um... let’s just say they’re a little bit ambitious.
So, we’re taking all the money the NRL and NFL guys have been making us, and loading up on 20 bets for a massive weekend of golf - Viva Las Vegas baby yeh!
Shriners Open: Outright Market - Webb Simpson EW @ 23.00
We love Patrick Cantlay but the price is prohibitive, so we’re going down the board a little to Simpson who does rate ridiculously well. First off, Simpson is a Vegas local and has amazing course history here, gaining over 40 strokes in the 6 times he has played here (over 1.7/round). He has mad 6/6 cuts at this event, winning in 2013 and coming off a 15th last year.
He plays the Par 4’s well, particularly the 400-450yd range (ranked #11 in this field - there are 7 here at TPC Summerlin) and the 350-400yd (ranked #5 in this field) and you know he is safe with the flatstick and capable of getting really hot.
Shriners Open: Outright Market – Chez Reavie EW @ 41.00
Things were looking great for us last week with Reavie in contention right until the back nine Sunday where he just went backwards quick, but the ball striking over the four days was very encouraging and if he had have been able to putt he’d have easily finished in the top five.
Reavie has not finished better than T24 here at TPC Summerlin but looking at his round scores, he has destroyed this course with multiple sub 64 rounds including a second round 61 last year after opening with a 76! Reavie is in career-best ball striking form (ranked #4 in this field) and if he can just find the putter for a few rounds he is right in this. When he putts even half well, he contends.
Shriners Open: Top 20 Market – Sebastian Munoz @ 4.50
No one is playing better golf than Munoz right now. He has T7 (Greenbrier), he won at Sanderson Farms and finished T33 last week at the Safeway Open. He is coming off his two best ever weeks on tour off the tee, gaining almost 4 strokes on the field in both events and two weeks ago he had an amazingly hot putter – those two facets of his game were what let him down in 2018 here in Vegas where he finished T41.
This is not a long course and it’s only defence is wind, of which there will be very little this week. Munoz is getting off the tee like a demon which is giving his wedges their time to shine (6ft on average closer to pin on approach 100-125yds last two events which is what also cost him last year here). Really think his recent form is going very overlooked by the bookies so we’re happy to jump in on a guy who is in form and overpriced.
Shriners Open: Top 40 Market - Kurt Kitayama @ 4.50
You won’t find too many stats on Kitayama but he is a leading contender for Rookie of the Year on the Euro tour this season, having won twice already on tour including the Oman Open. He attended UNLV so he knows this course but it’s his recent form that is most encouraging with three top 40 finishes including a T14 BMW PGA Championship two weeks ago. A great last man in for DFS teams and well worth a T40 go at inflated odds.
Shriners Open: Exotics Markets
Cantlay T5, Simpson T10, Finau T20 @ 31
We normally leave these exotics alone but there are three this week that have tempted the boys starting with what is effectively a three-leg multi. All three of these guys should contend and we’re getting pretty juicy odds for not needing the winner at all.
Patrick Cantlay and Bryson DeChambau 1st and 2nd (any order) @ 81
Both these guys have won this in recent years, and both rate really well to go again. Bryson found something with his wedges on Friday last week (then stupidly let everyone know in an interview Friday evening) whilst Cantlay’s ball striking was on song he just had a little around-the-green rust. Expect them to both be right up there in contention again and the juicy odds were enough to suck us in.
Aaron Wise T10, Jauquin Niemann T10, Adam Hadwin T20, Peter Uihlein T40 @ 276.00
This was the last bet the boys spied mainly because Uihlein was one we were looking really closely at after his solid effort last start here and a decent effort last week. Aaron Wise is a local there, Niemann and Hadwin have been in excellent form to start the new season – it’s a hail mary of hail mary plays but when someone offers you an exotics bet with four players you like, you have to consider it. These odds are crazy
Shriners Open: Round 1 3-Ball Multi Options
There are four in particular we like in Round 1 and we’re going all combo’s with this quartet (1x4, 4x3, 6x2) so we can build a nice little kitty for NRL Grand Final day.
Chez Reavie @ 2.25
Tony Finau @ 2.20
Brian Harman @ 2.40
Deki Matsuyama @ 2.30
