Week Four College Football Matches To Keep An Eye On

We're into week four of College Football and we have three ranked match-ups this week compared to zero from last week. We take a look at all three of those fixtures and as usual the Stats Insider model has you covered with all the pre-game model predictions.

Houston Cougars' senior punter, Australian ice-cream salesman turned superboot, Dane Roy, dives into the matches to keep an eye on.

#13 University of Wisconsin #11 v University of Michigan

This Saturday the #13 ranked Wisconsin Badgers host fellow Big 10 school #11 Michigan Wolverines. Both teams are undefeated and have only played 2 games each through the first 3 weeks of the season. Wisconsin are averaging 55 points scored per game and Michigan narrowly took the overtime win against an outstanding Army outfit last game at home.

Senior Wisconsin QB, Jack Coan, has been explosive in the first two games, throwing for 564 yards at 76% with 5 TD on top of that. When the Badger QB doesn’t throw it, it's most likely going to Junior RB Jonathan Taylor, who has rushed for 237 yards and 5 TDs.

Michigan on the other hand have Senior QB, Shea Patterson, who has 410 yards for 3 TDs but has been sacked 6 times in their 2 games. Wolverine RB Zach Charbonnethas had a great start to his 2019 campaign, rushing for 190 yards and 3 TDs.

If the Michigan offensive line can protect their QB, Patterson could take this game away from the Badgers, but he will need some help from his defense, as Wisconsin are not having any problems scoring at the moment.

Look out for:

Jonathan Taylor to add to his already impressive TD season tally.

Verdict:

Wisconsin have looked very impressive through the first two games of the season, and I would expect to see that form continue. Michigan were saved by a missed field goal last week and if they don’t respond from that close call, then it's the Badgers who will take this one.

#17 Texas A&M University v #8 Auburn University

This Saturday the #8 Auburn War Eagles venture over to College Station and meet #17 Texas A&M Aggies for another huge SEC matchup. I am lucky enough to have the weekend off (after my Thursday night game) so I will be heading up to Kyle Field for the first time and watching this game in person.

Auburn have had an entertaining start to the season earning some big wins already. The War Eagles sit 3-0 and freshman QB, Bo Nix, hasn’t had the start some pundits predicted. Nix has thrown for 545 yards with 4 TDsbut his completion rate is just over 50% and he has thrown 2 interceptions and been sacked 3 times. Helping out Nix and the offense is sophomore RB, JaTarvious Whitlow, who has been on fire of late, running for 341 yards and 3 TDs so far.

The Aggies scored 103 points to 10 in their 2 wins but couldn’t quite compile a winning score during their loss against (the #1 team in the country) Clemson, at Clemson too. Not many teams make the trip to Death Valley and come out with a win in recent years. Junior QB, Kellen Mond, has been Mr. Reliable for the Aggies, throwing for 747 yards with 5 TDs. Yet again it is a RB who is on the stats sheet leading the offense, this time it's freshman Isaiah Spiller who has rushed for 246 yards at nearly 9 yards per carry, and scored 2 TDs for the Aggies.

Look out for:

Auburn punter, Arryn Siposs, who is averaging 44 yards per punt this season. Expect Siposs to have a few punts this game, but not too many hopefully.

Verdict:

If A&M can rattle the cage of Auburn QB Nix a few times early, that could help them in the long run, but Nix got similar treatment vs Oregon to start the season and that didn’t faze him in the slightest. In the battle of these 2 quarterbacks, expect a really tight finish, with Mond and the home team taking the chocolates in the end.

#3 University of Georgia (3-0) v #7 University of Notre Dame (2-0)

In what is set to be a cracker of game this Saturday, the #3 Georgia Bulldogs host the #7 Notre Dame Fighting Irish. A battle for a spot in the College Football Playoffs could be on the line here, with a loss from either of these teams hurting those CFB chances.

Georgia have been ridiculously efficient in the first 3 games, scoring 148 points and giving up a measly 23 while also racking up a massive 12 sacks at 4 per game.

Junior QB, Jake Fromm, has been throwing at 75% and accounted for 5 TDs with 601 yards and looks like he will continue his good form into the guts of the season. D’Andre Swift, Junior RB, has been super impressive to start the season, rushing for 290 yards at nearly 10 yards per carry with 2 TDs and 1 receiving TD.

For the Fighting Irish, Senior QB, Ian Book has been electric in their 2 games amassing a total of 680 offensive yards (553 passing & 127 rushing). Book has also thrown for 6 TDs and run in 2 himself. Appreciating Books precision passing is senior WR, Chase Claypool, who has 190 yards and 1 TD for the season so far.

This will be the first real challenge for the Bulldogs this season and if they can handle the Fighting Irish just like they did their first 3 opponents, then that’s good for their CFB aspirations.

Look out for:

Another exciting QB battle, Fromm vs Book, classic names too. I’d anticipate these two will account for a lot of TDs this week. But more coming from Fromm.

Verdict:

If Notre Dame can't handle Fromm and his RB Swift, then it could be a swift exit from any future CFB talk for the Fighting Irish. Expect to see Georgia continue their heavy scoring and winning ways.
