Next North Melbourne Coach Odds and Best Bets

With North Melbourne and David Noble bringing the AFL's worst-kept secret to life by parting ways, speculation can officially begin as to who the next coach at Arden Street will be.

Over on our AFL Pressure Gauge ratings, Noble's score of -11.8 sees him become the coach with the worst score in five years to lose his job.

Based purely on data and with no opinion involved, our Pressure Gauge ratings consider a number of factors including betting markets, recent results and current contract status to determine the safety of each AFL coach's job.

Interestingly, there's a coach with a worse score than Noble who still has his job (more on that below), but as soon as Noble's Pressure Gauge score went as far past both Brad Scott's and Rhyce Shaw's as it did, the writing was very much on the wall.

But now with Noble officially gone, it's time to look at where the value lies when betting on his full-time replacement.

Who will be the next North Melbourne coach?

As they usually do, Sportsbet have launched a market for punters to bet on who they think the next North Melbourne coach will be.

Best Bet: Leigh Adams ($5)

Despite Alistair Clarkson being installed as betting favourite to take over at North Melbourne, the safest bet right now might just be interim coach, Leigh Adams.

Adams spent nine years on North Melbourne's playing list from 2007-2015, playing 104 games for the club.

The number three pick in the 2007 AFL Rookie Draft, Adams has since been making his through the coaching ranks with his most recent job being the North Melbourne VFL coach.

Leigh Adams now gets the chance to prove his worth as North's interim coach for the remainder of the 2022 AFL season, which should be him in the box seat to take over permanently for 2023 and beyond.

A much-loved person at North Melbourne, Leigh Adams stands out as the best bet to make when looking for the Kangaroos next coach.

Value Bet: Adam Simpson ($12)

Speaking of much-loved figures at North Melbourne, 300-gamer Adam Simpson looks to be the best value bet to make on this market right now.

As mentioned above, David Noble didn't actually have the worst coach rating in the AFL at the time of his sacking, with West Coast coach Adam Simpson currently breaking records on our AFL coach pressure ratings.

With the Eagles fielding one of the oldest teams in the AFL most weeks, their 2-14 record in 2022 makes it very tough to argue for them keeping Simpson in the head coach role beyond this season.

Simpson's current Pressure Gauge rating is -19.3, meaning the data says he is worse-placed than any current or fired AFL coach from the past five years. And if he is to lose his job, it's likely that North Melbourne would look very strongly at him.

A proven Premiership-winning coach, a change of scenery to North Melbourne could be the exact scenario to bring Simpson back to his coaching best.

Roughie: David Teague ($26)

Former Carlton senior coach David Teague appears to be the most likely long shot to take over at North Melbourne.

After losing his job as the coach of Carlton in August of 2021, Teague soon found himself at Richmond where he was hired as an assistant coach.

This is the perfect job to have between two senior coaching jobs, with Richmond's structure generally renowned as one of the best in the AFL in recent times.

Teague is a recent senior coach who many thought was unlucky to be fired, has been entrusted by 2020 premiers Richmond to play a big role at the club and is another who was initially drafted by North Melbourne in his playing days.

We wouldn't be surprised at all if these odds came in over the coming weeks, with Teague telling The Age last year that coaching remains his passion.
