Winning in the West: Club 20 Chasing the Derby Dream

With three BIIIIG golf sweats in play for later tonight, all of which likely to end in nail-bitingly close heartbreak (check our Club 20 Twitter), we thought we would try and distract ourselves with some Sunday afternoon footy bets as well.

The game we’re looking at targeting is the Derby in the West, with Freo losing yet more defensive prowess with Luke Ryan now missing, leaving Griffin Logue and a half-healthy Brennan Cox to defend the three tall towers for the Eagles.

There are goals there and we want in.

Matchup wise it makes sense for Oscar Allen to spend some time in defence tonight as Freo have two big ruck-size talls down there and West Coast are a little light on, so whilst he will get a sweet-as-can-be matchup when he is forward, I worry his versatility may cost him a look at a big bag tonight.

Kennedy looks the obvious choice, especially if that Eagles midfield responds to the pasting they copped in Geelong and starts dominating clearances, but Jack Darling is right there and loves a big occasion game.

Surprised to see the odds for these guys have not come in abit after teams were named, markets seem to think Freo will win this but I just can’t see West Coast playing anything but a close to ceiling game after their efforts last week, if their midfield/Nic Nat lift then there will be pressure applied to the Fremantle key backs.

Don’t think there is any choice but to take both Eagles big men and hope one kicks.

  • Josh Kennedy Goals 3 @ 2.50, 4 @ 5.25, 5 @ 12.25, 6 @ 35.75

  • Jack Darling Goals 3 @ 3.00, 4 @ 6.75, @ 18.25, 6 @ 49.00

The other spot we really like is Jack Redden in the disposals market. Redden can beast with the best of them when on, and he is entering the sweet spot of coming off a massive away loss, back to Optus, sans Shuey, against Freo.

How markets have missed him is beyond me for a guy coming off a 37-touch game last start at home.

  • Redden 25+ @ 2.35, 30+ @ 5.50, 35+ @ 18.50, 40+ @ 90-1

To really go and get all our eggs and put them in this one, hail-mary basket, we’re going to add some two and three leg same-game multi’s to the card.

  • Redden 25+ / Kennedy 3 Goals @ 5.50

  • Redden 25+ / Darling 3 Goals @ 6.50

  • Redden 25+, Kennedy 3, Darling 3 @ 15.25

  • Redden 30+ / Kennedy 3 Goals @ 12.00

  • Redden 30+ / Darling 3 Goals @ 14.00

  • Redden 30+ / Kennedy 4 Goals @ 24.50

  • Redden 30+ / Darling 4 Goals @ 34.50

  • Redden 30+ / Kennedy 4 Goals, Darling 4 Goals @ 131.00

The truly sick amongst us will no doubt keep going and align some Redden 35’s with a big back from Kennedy or Darling, but we will stop here and just hope the Eagles can turn it on tonight.

All fingers are crossed, follow along with us on our Club 20 twitter page as we watch the key pillars from the Eagles kick points from the goal square all game!

Hedge

Cruelly denied sporting glory due to recurring shin splint complaints and an aversion to warm-up laps, Hedge now spends his days golfing, fishing the leaves out of the Club 20 pools and identifying value plays in PGA, AFL, AFLW and T20. All you really need to know about him is he's more than comfortable taking 3I off the tee on a Par 5, and more than capable of pulling driver off the deck second shot.
