Club 20: "It’s a bold strategy cotton, let’s see if it pays off"

The party is still going at Club 20 after big collects in the PGA and AFL saw us fly past 35% POT at the weekend.

Special thanks to Tippa and Viktor/Ventura!

It’s an early start tonight and no AFL so we have got a little carried away and made 20 bets, a mix of first-round-leader plays, Stats Insider Green Smiley bets and two hail-mary outright multi’s.

PGA – Valspar Championship

The Tour returns to Florida at the Copperhead course in Tampa Bay which is one of my favourite events on tour, not least because the myriad snake references constantly remind me of the Purple Cobra’s from the movie Dogdeball.

It is also a really hard course. It is long (7,340 Par 71) and very tree-lined which makes fairways hard (but essential) to hit, which always makes it a fun event to watch because the cutline is always in positive numbers come Friday afternoon so you never feel like your guys are out of it, back to back birides can jump a player up heaps of spots at this course.

Particularly with the tough finish on holes 16-18, aka the ‘Snakepitt’.

Despite the high scoring, there are still 4 Par 5’s for players to (attempt) to take advantage of, but it’s the combination of having to club down and play to a zone that gets you around a dogleg and gives you a shot at the green, then hitting these small Bermuda greens that prove tricky to putt in the best of conditions that make this course play tougher than it seems like it should.

Don’t be surprised to see short putts miss here, this course ranks #2 hardest for putts inside 5ft (second most misses on tour).

I am not prioritizing any one skill set at this course, the winner will be lurking around that -8 to -10 mark which means any round of 67 or 68 is going to give the first-round leader a real shake tonight.

I’ll be making some additions on Friday morning, a few outrights after watching the play overnight, hopefully it is with the houses money!

EUROTOUR – Tenerife Open

The Tour is staying on the Canary Islands again this week and whilst it’s a different course, it is going to be another birdie-fest.

Taking our two Club 20 Euro Favourites in Cal Hill and Jono Caldwell, and adding a local (of sorts), Pep Angles, who opened with a disgusting 71 last week the went 64, 65, 67 to finish T29.

All three guys are each-way outright AND First-Round Leader

Hedge

Cruelly denied sporting glory due to recurring shin splint complaints and an aversion to warm-up laps, Hedge now spends his days golfing, fishing the leaves out of the Club 20 pools and identifying value plays in PGA, AFL, AFLW and T20. All you really need to know about him is he's more than comfortable taking 3I off the tee on a Par 5, and more than capable of pulling driver off the deck second shot.
